BI Analyst

We are looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst with some experience.

About the job

Are you passionate about data-driven decision making? Do you like creating insights from data and communicating them with business? Have you ever wondered what would happen if you coupled BI software with coding languages such as Python? Do bad data visualisations give you the creeps and make you want to take over? If any of this is true, then this position might just be something for you.

What you'll do

At Craftzing Data, we are looking for a BI analyst who can help organisations bridge the waters between data and business. Your main tasks will be

  • To understand the clients business needs
  • To design the analytical process that creates insights from data to support these needs;
  • To develop efficient ways in communicating these insights (through presentations, dashboarding, etc.).

On a day-to-day basis, you will be working as a consultant for one or more clients. You will be their main go-to point when it comes to data insights and, therefore, you will be the one responsible for creating these insights. However, our data scientists will support you from the scientific point of view whilst our data designers and visualisers will stimulate you to communicate even better. In the long term, we will help you develop an even broader skillset so you can take up responsibilities as, for example, business analyst, data scientist or data visualiser, whichever direction of growth you prefer.

On top of that, you will be working directly with our managing partner (dr. Maarten Vanhoof) to develop frameworks for information design and the strategic use of data. Overall, we will strive to offer you projects where you can have an impact on an organisation while still developing your business and data skills.

We're looking for

  • Some kind of proof that you have worked as a BI analyst before. This could be a use case attached to your CV or a small presentation or something alike. If you don’t have such proof, make sure you write an excellent motivation letter as to why you would fit in this position.
  • If you have lots of experience, by all means, just send us your CV and come over for a chat. No need to work out a portfolio of case studies, we’ll just discuss it in person that’s much more efficient (and interesting for you).
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch. As our clients are mostly Flemish companies, your Dutch really needs to be sufficient to make for clear and effective communication.
  • Good knowledge of one (or several) BI software packages (Tableau, PowerBI, you name them) and not afraid to dive into new ones.
  • Good knowledge of one (or several) query languages (SQL, GraphQL) and not afraid to learn a new one.
  • Good knowledge of the basics of information design or data visualisation
  • Good knowledge of basic statistics
  • General knowledge of data ecosystems and how they work (cloud, databases, data models, etc.)
  • Experience with coding for data science is a huge plus (Python, R, …)
  • Experience with data visualisation coding libraries is a huge plus (d3.js, matplotlib, ggplot, processing, p5.js)

Why you'll love us

  • You will get the chance to develop yourself as a Business Intelligence Analyst (by mentoring you in projects, by paying for your education and by putting your development first whenever we can).
  • You will work with a supporting team of data enthusiasts.
  • You will work on a diverse set of projects (ranging from client work to educational material).
  • You will work in close collaboration with our managing partner dr. Maarten Vanhoof. Maarten is a data expert who has been leading data analysis and visualisation projects at universities and companies across the world (London, Boston, Paris, etc.).

Why this isn't something for you

We are not looking for people who want to run the same report every day. What we look for are analysts who want to explore the organisations they work for. We believe that’s the only way to learn and understand how our data insights are useful (or useless) for our clients.

About Craftzing Data

We are Craftzing Data, a daughter company of Craftzing with a focus on data. Our main focus is to help clients define their data strategy. We do so by talking to them, exploring their data in creative ways and, sometimes, by building prototypes for their data projects. This means that we are always looking for ways to explain elements of data to our clients. Be it by teaching them, explaining methodologies, showing them insights from their data, or by coming up with potential ways in which they could use their data, internally or towards the general public.

Our Craftzing Data team is backed up by the whole Craftzing team who bring in lots of experience in UX and UI design, development, business strategy, performance marketing, etc. Therefore, there is tons of opportunities to learn from different experts.
